We estimated the “Developed Land Cover” in Chicago Metro Area. We used National Land Cover Database (NLCD) 2001, 2004, 2006, 2008, 2011, 2013, and 2016 to determine this change. The study shows that the developed land cover increased by 6.19% in this area between 2001 and 2016. More interestingly, the developed land sprawled beyond the metro area expanding the Greater Chicago Area.
